Organic Farming
at Sri Jayalakshmi Narasimhan VETRI Campus
Nearly three decades ago, Sri D.V. Sridharan, a passionate ecologist and chief donor of our school, transformed 18 acres of barren land into a thriving organic farm with a vision to protect and nurture nature.
Out of this land, 5 acres are dedicated to the cultivation of a variety of fruits and vegetables including drumstick, mango, amla, sapota, and guava. The farm is managed by six skilled labourers, personally trained and guided by Sri Sridharan, ensuring sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices.
Named in loving memory of his parents, the Sri Jayalakshmi Narasimhan VETRI Campus is now governed by the Vivekananda Educational Trust and integrated into the school’s educational activities. Students regularly visit the campus to gain hands-on experience in organic farming, deepening their understanding of:
- Sustainable agriculture methods
- The importance of biodiversity and eco-balance
- The connection between healthy soil, natural inputs, and nutritious food
This initiative not only promotes environmental stewardship but also encourages students to develop respect for nature and an appreciation for traditional farming practices, aligning perfectly with our vision of man-making education rooted in Indian culture.
